Have you bled the air out of the cooling system lately?
-
no, yet my local garage claimed it's the thermostate, what a mess from a little part, i was last night at the hospital cause the boiling water decided to take revenge on my hand and face, so dumm..........

STILL NEED HELP
they have change the fan clutch as well, and the car didn't
warm up any more, than when i picked it up it was all trembling
and i felt like i was driving a diesel.......they have been through everything engine wise and couldn't
find the source of the problem, checking the plagues, heads,
compression and running a full diagnose with no negative results,
a bmw specialist wasn't of any help neither, they say it can't be serious
cause they've checked it all, what can it be?i could have bought a 6 series long ago with all the money spent
on that car and in times like that i can't be bothered any more, it's
been 2 weeks without a car i really need these days...........help

thanks will try asap

I've heard of people also doing this with the car at an angle (nose up).
This is only anecdotal and I have no proof!
-
Thats right ,keep the nose up,unscrew the bleed screw, syart engine with heater controls at hot, watch for coolant level to drop, top up the level, & wait for the air bubbles to be pushed out of the bleed hole, all this is done with Radiator cap on
-
This bleed process helped me when my heater system only blew cooled air. Not sure about you problem though i.e. if the reverse applies
(thanks again Steve ) -
wisco fan, is that possible?
-
Viscous fan the most likely...
Had the same problem, sat in traffic one day and the temp gauge went through the roof. Got to my friends garage and the first thing we tried was the fan clutch (Viscous coupling) Should get stiff when hot ( No joke's there please)
When you start from cold you will here the fan turning and after a couple of minutes and a blip of the throttle the fan will go quiet...
If yours is quiet at start then it has probably gone south....
Hope this helps....
-
helps alot shnitz, is that a pricey story?
-
Not to bad...
£40-£50..... 32mm spanner, big hammer and it un-does clockwise looking from the front....
Good luck and I hope this is it....

o.k the results, a wing of the Viscous fan broke out, the fan
wasn't spinnig pefectly, the engine heated up, the termostate lost
his passion of work, and that's the whole shabang, only now
all that bad rotation buisness got the water pump to leak water
from the sides, they say i need to change it, did that at bmw's
a year ago( 800 EURS pump and parts) , but in another country, am
i still garantied? should i go to steadler or continue there?
my local also says that no way my thermostat was changed one
year ago like bmw reciept says, does the number on the thermo
state the year?thanks for the help, have just rented a car, think my 8's not
gonna be my daylie anymore........... -
Water pumps are not that expensive £50-£80 Aftermarket.
Show the local BMW garage a receipt for original and they should change it.... but they could argue that the fan loosing a blade would cause vibration and therefore not cover it...
Change the fan assembly and thermostat and then go for the pump...
Good luck...
