Is the M logo a standard fit or is it an aftermarket addition to some seats? See Steve's post:

See if that works!
I'm 99.9% sure they've been added by an owner in the past
I'm pretty sure they're just superglued on;-)
Steve I do like that interior
Zitat von Lloyd;59584Steve I do like that interior
Thanks Mate I'm rather fond of it;-) when you acknowledge the car has done 126,000 miles & yet the trim shows little or no signs of wear Can't be bad;-)
those are the seat inserts that were used on select e30 M3s
they have two pins (about 1/8" diameter) on either end that go straight into the seat by puncturing two small holes in the leather
Couldn't open the pics but from what Bryson is saying, sound like the ones I fitted to my seats. Two galvanised pins at the back, black plastic plate with "M" logo sticker.
Pretty sure they were never fitted as original to the 8.
I saw mine on an Ebay site that specialises in BMW original accessories (badges and the like mainly). According to them they are are an original BM part.
BTW, the way to fit them without damaging the leather (and so they're not sticking in your back!) is to insert the pins in one of the stitched folds towards the top of the seats. Stretch the fold apart and push through between the stitching. I did try removing one after this and no signs of damage to leather and stitching.
