BMW service costs

You are getting a reasonable deal

Similar, I use an Autotecknik, an independent which is supposed to have cheaper labour charge than main dealer (no curtesy car)
Oil Insp -£140
Insp 1 - £252
Insp 2 - £600 (consider Jag, Porche and Audi A/S8 are alot more for their main service we don't do bad)

Warranty £650 - Reckon I've had about the same amount of work done under warranty last year (spurious oil leak). This year had both batteries replaced under the warranty.

That sounds a lot to me. Im sorry but I dont have much faith in the main dealers (I have 3 BMW's) I would always take it to a good garage that spcialises in BMW as the labour rate can be halved. I use BMWCare in Leeds but with this car it comes down to someone who knows what they are doing. By the way your 840 pics look well. Where abouts in the country are you?

I've only had this 850 for 2 weeks, so no servicing yet. I had the previous 525i serviced at a main dealer and a BMW specializing independent. There seem to be pros and cons either way:
The BMW dealer was marginally cheaper, but that could vary either way. The independent had a lower hourly rate but took longer. The independent had to wait for spares to arrive from the main dealer who wold have taken them off the shelf. The main dealer was miles away, but the independent is just up the road, though the main dealer supplied a courtesy car.

Swings and roundabouts I'd say. My preference is to build up a good working relationship with someone I trust and stick with it.

You should all bring them to me.......an 8 series owner and enfusiast(sp?) and alot cheaper then the main dealers

I am in Surrey. Pretty near to Croydon. I am about 5 mins off J6 M25.

I am thinking of breaking away from BMW now and starting my own business so I need to get a client base. I already look after alot of BMW's and a couple of 8's.
I have worked for BMW for nearly 8 years now and I am a Senoir tech and hope to be taking my Masters soon.

There is a little history on myself so you know where I am coming lrom, oh yeah... and I am an 8 series owner and lover!

My dealer Godfrey Hall have just introduced 7plus servicing for any car over 7 years the price is very good and you get discounts of genuine parts

Is that a BMW dealer? If so, is that a nationwide deal, or just a local one?

Steveba, was the rear shock cover an expensive jo and difficult job? One of mine needs replacing.

My local BMW specialist garage in Swansea is offering servicing at the following rates:-

Oil Service - £80 + vat
Inspection I - £185 + vat
Inspection II - £210 + vat

Which I think is very reasonable .

£210 for Service II? Wow, it's worth the drive to Swansea for that.
