• I realise that I may be opening myself to ridicule here, but. Anyone else get a vaguely uncomfortable feeling looking at the front end of the 8?

I sometimes think that the join between nosecone/ wings, bonnet/nosecone looks rather kitcarish. Now, I know it's all to do with the nosecone being plastic or whatever, and for all the right safety reasons ,but , anybody else think that it, and the rather obvious rubber seal below the bonnet leading edge is less than graceful?

For myself it's the one and only aspect of the 8 that grates.

Anybody ever tried a filler, smoothing out mod on this?

I realise that possibly vibration may crack any filler eventually, but, wouldn't it look so much better "smoothed out" ?

  • I agree, it doesn't look very high quality. Nevertheless, I don't even notice it anymore. Others seem to do, however. It's a comment I get a lot: Is the bonnet suposed to be on top of the nosecone?
I don't intend to change it as it is simply a feature of the 8.

Can honestly say I've not really thought about it either really. After washing her and standing back and thinking WOW sex on wheels I am one happy owner and dont think I would change anyhting about it, I'm in love :D:D:D:D

Well, thanks Wayne, I guess that , that puts it all into context. :D

Still, have a sneaky suspicion that it would look better without the rubber.

I remember a thread getting out of hand this way last week !

So, to carry on in Allo Allo style....

If you were to remove the rubber... It may look and feel good for a while but in the end unwanted fluids would find their way inside places that you did not intend them to, causing you all sorts of problems a few months down the line. ....

  • I thought it had been sprayed so got a specialist to look at it and it hasn't been re-sprayed it's original. He blamed it of the differing plastic/metal combination and age ?

Even other colour cars I looked at had the same problem .

Must admit it has some laquer crazing where I forgot I don't have PDC

  • STEVE what do you suggest i got a crack on my nose cone and dont even know if it is fixable..............if it is how should you paint for the color to come out the same.............

  • Mate if i knew that I'd get mine done :D

However i think a decent body repair shop can plastic weld /reinforce the repair to near perfect, trouble is it seems most places simply want just to fit a new one

Those who risk nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

  • The different shades may be down to the primers. Plastic parts need a special primer for plastics to prevent future pealing. The colour coats are usually applied quite thinly and the colour of the primer underneath therefore affects the shade. BMW ususlly specify the primer colour as well as the colour coat for a correct match.

  • Never noticed this, but my car is Black as Tony's.
have seen the same on other cars when in silver i.e the previous Audi A6 had a horrible front wing/bumper joint on silver and bright colloured cars, but the dark ones looked ok.

look at the lower front part of the wing.... horrible, If I was in charge of Audi, I'd fire the chief designer.

And Tony, ever thought about having red running lights in the front???
I have, but it will never happen.

  • HEHE, I've thought about the similarities of my black 8 and K.i.t.t, and the red scanner lights in the front.
You are right that it would be a cool feature at shows/meets, but not for everyday use.
