New wheels, what to buy????? help....

  • Right boys, I need help.

For the past 2 months I've been searching the web for new wheels for my 850. And thats proven to a bit harder than I thought.

First of all I have some criterias.:
    size: 19" or 20", 9" fronts and 10" rears
I want a deeeep lip, talking 3-4" on the rear ones.
I dont like Alpina wheels and wheels with many spokes.

My car is black and I might go for black hubs.
    I've found 4 potensial wheels

    Breyton spirit black
like the design, but want a Gloss black hub, this is not.
the spokes might look too thin in 19/20" on a car as big as the 8

    RPM 505 Black/chrome
Gloss black and a chrome lip.
like these, but not sure about the quality, their quite cheap

    RH AM (x) rad
like these, look like the AC Schitzer wheels I have on my car now, only bigger, simple, but too simple??

    SSR GT3
    Like these too

And to you Brits, Image wheels, they make the wheel I want after measurements. Anyone know anything about them??

Please use this thred to let me know what you think about the wheels I've found, and other wheel suggestions are greatly appreciated.

post images of youre own car or wheels if you like.

  • My favorite after market wheels on a BMW would be some Alpinas or BBS LMs, but from the ones you chose, I would pick the Breyton's Spirit Black.

They should be nice on a black car.

    I wouldn't go over 18'' though.

Good luck with your choice and keep us posted :)

  • I've got a price on the Breyton's in 9x20" and 10x20" with tires.
7260 USD (yeah thats right 7260$)
    3660GBP

I have a friend at one of the wheel shops here and hes giving me a price on the RH wheels in 8,5x19" and 9,5x19" with tires, this wheel does'nt come in 20"

I'll go for 19"s I think the extra inch the 20"s give just is'nt worth the money.

  • alloys

Ive got a mate who has several BMW alloys both 18 and 19 inch. All geniune alloys and he can aslo supply tyres.

These include Breyton Magics 19inch original in brand new condition

Alpina Classic in 18 and 19 inch

Alloys from the new six series

And I can get you a set of 19 inch Hartge Modular alloys with tyres

    The list goes on

If youre serious and are intrested then get in touch with me on 07950593040

He can also post the alloys to you via a courier

I also have a set of 17 inch AC SCHITZNER TYPE TWO ALLOYS FOR SALE AND ALSO THE 5TH SPARE ALLOY. THEY WILL NEED MINIMUM REFURBISHMENT HENCE THE LOW ASKING PRICE. very low!!!!!

I also have a set of the original 850csi alloys.

But my advice and peronal opinion....... Forget 19inch alloys. Believe me ive been there and although it makes the car look much better the handling and ride is crap. Stick to good old 17inch or go as high as 18 and if you do I recommend 18inch alpina classics rather than after market cheap alloys which were never meant for the car.

    Anyone agree????

  • I am biased, but I fell in love with these 5 spokes in the summer. And they now grace my car. No dishing though Noggie, but once you see them in the flesh .... 8)

M6 19s. You can fit 275/30/19 Rs & 245/35/19 Fs to these wheels, mine are 265/30/19 R & 235/35/19 Fs though as I like the rubber band effect (the picture was taken before I swapped the rears tyres - these original ones were 285/40/19 and looked gigantic/dragster-ish and rubbed the arches). As for ride quality issues, IMHO the handling is better as I prefer to feel the road I'm on instead of floating above it, but that's a personal choice thing I guess.

  • I like the AC Schnitzer wheels I have on the car right now.

I just think the hubs are a bit small, because they are 3 split wheels they almost look like 14" wheels.
And the outer rings are not pretty, the wheels have been on the car since 1992, and it shows.
All 4 have curb marks, even dents in the outer ring.
At the wheel and tire shop they said that new rings would cost 80-90% of a new wheel, so I thought I'd replace them and get some bigger ones.

I've owned cars with big wheels earlier so I dont fear decreased handling, I have friends that have 19" on e46 3 series.

Might just give you a ring.
Can't find pictures of the Hartge Modular on the web. You have any?
Since my car has been tinkered with by Hartge, a set of Hartge wheels would probably compliment the car.

  • whatever you choose DO NOT buy replica/cheap chinese made rubbish

sure they look the part but are usually 4 kilos heavier than the real thing & are not always perfectly round  bring on the wheel vibs/wobblies :D

There is minimal difference between 18&19's but 19's look better

Those who risk nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

  • I don't intend to buy cheap shit.
The breytons cost over 3600£ and I'm not worried by the price.
I expect to use from 2500£ to 4000£ on wheels and tires.

The Breytons are heavy, 18 kg I think i 19"

I like the RPM wheels, but I've never heard of RPM, and they cost about 200£ each, and thats cheap, so I'm worried about the quality

My friend at the wheel shop says that RH are good quality wheels, and I trust him.

  • Re: alloys

    [quote="voytek"]hello mate
I will stick only with oryginal BMW WHEELS

Then it is Interesting that you have some very rare old school MK Motorsports :D Not really standard fittment but very nice

  • IMHO go for the Breyton 19". I just love those. I've thinking about buying these ones in 18", but my car is blue and I'm sure it would look great. On a black car, however,...... nice.
Whatever you choose, I love to see the result.

    Peter

  • Whatever i end up buying, pictures wil be posted in here.
just dont expect any untill late April or May.
The car is stored at the moment and will not be used untill spring.
