Hello all. I am having my intake manifolds powder coted black. My "8" is in the shop getting new intake gaskets put on (and a lot more)and since they were off I decided to have them finished with a black powder coating. My initial thought was to have them polished to a high gloss. However my mechanic ( Bavarian Master Care in San Marcos CA, I highly recommend them) thought they would dis-color from the heat. They had another 850 there, a burgundy colored 6-speed. That had the same detail. (if you're out there, HI! you're car looks great, LOVE your exhaust)
Anyway my question is.... If I paint the plastic center engine cover between the intake manifolds. If I sand it down first, use a hi temp primer and hi temp paints and hi temp gloss finish. Will it last? Is there anyone out that did the same thing?[/quote]

Does it really get that Hot! I would be interested on the experience of other?

None of the "colour" added to my engine is hi-temp. It does get hot under the hood, but not that hot in my experience. FWIW!

Wuffer
I think that you may need to paint the distributor cap covers to add a spot of color to the engine bay

Hmmmmmm................................

Did the same on mine, center engine bay with black hi gloss hi-temp piant.

Did mine as well with hi-temp paint. There is just one drawback, it comes off when you're cleaning it. So, you have to redo it every once in a while.
p.s. the clear coat is non-hi-temp and stays on there nicely.

Very nice all. This is one of my planned jobs for the summer (see link: cleaning engine). I too like the polished inlets.
To remove the inlets for polishing etc. what parts would need to be replaced? -
Monica is that an aftermarket badge on the centre of the cover?
-
very nice guys! I'd like to know about the polished intakes as well Monica.

Hey guys! about intake , i'v remove the manifold from the inlets in order to get them polish and took manifold to a machine shop and they use polish rubbing compound paste with a grinder and replace the manifold gaskets.
Badge from a BMW motorcyle !.

I just got everything together and I'm very happy how it looks!! What an improvement from stock! Here are a couple pictures! I have about 4 cans of paint on the engine cover. I'm still waiting for the caps that cover the screws, over 8 bucks a piece from the dealer (rip off).

That's a very nice and clean job!

Thanks M!
I love all the different details everyone has done to their engines. I would like to see a gallery category for just that.
