Found a nice -97 850ci on Autotrader (US), and I was just wondering what those strange "lumps" on top of the trunk are? They show on pic 3, 4, and 13.. Could they be for the aftermarked gps-system?

The first one is an XM satelite radio antenna. Ugly little beasties 
I put mine on the dash instead of on the trunk lid or roof.
The second is the late model seat design. they fold down to make a flat shelf of the rear seats.
No, when the backrest is folded forward, it presents a carpeted shelf behind the front seats but behind this is the bulkhead.
It is nicely designed though because it gives an enclosed area between the seat cushion and the backrest where small amounts of luggage can be enclosed and hidden from view.
I thought all E31's had this facility!

Good tip Gerry, never thought of stowing anthing there - to be honest I didn't realise it left any gap when the seats are back up.
