Strut Reinforcement plates advice

  • I recently bought a set of reinforcement plates which were going to be fitted this weekend. Has anyone had difficulty fitting these, there seems to be little or no clearance between the plate when it is fitted and the large washer that is on the strut top. Is there a smaller washer that needs to be fitted to the strut?

  • I presume you mean the rear strut re-enforcing plates. If so, then there is enough clearance with the original washer. If the washer touches the plate then your top rubber mounts are shot and need replacing.

  • Thanks, I will have a look at the top mounts athough im sure they are ok as they were changed last year along with the shocks.
I dont know if the plates are hitting the washer on the strut top, it all just looked very tight when I sat them on.

  • At least one series of these plates have been manufactured incorrectly. I replaced my rear top rubber mounts with brand new OEM stuff, but I got a squeeking sound that only disappeared when I dismantled the plates and widened the center holes.

Now I'm on a quest to find the source of other different rattles, squeeks and quirks. =)

  • Just had mine fitted a few days ago at my local specialist. I could have done it myself quite easily, but I knew I needed the top mounts and rear springs replaced anyway so had it all done at the same time. No problems encountered here. Next upgrade is going to be camber plates methinks :D

  • I've heard lots of good things regarding the camber plates. I only wish I'd had them about 6 months ago when I had the springs replaced, as the front suspension assembly was already removed meaning it would have been an extra 10 minutes work to fit the camber plates. Instead the whole lot will have to come out again :( I'm sure it'll be worth it though.
