I've noticed that if I start the car and then turn the wheel immediately, there's a brief screeching noise that sounds like it's coming from the steering system. It only ever happens in the first few seconds after starting the car and the steering feels fine. Any ideas guys?
Screeching from power steering on start up?

a) Pentosin level low
b) Pentosin filters plugged
c) Power steering pump failing
Most likely a or b. -

Not if they know what they are doing. The primary filter is in the bottom of the Pentosin reservoir and is a D-I-Y replacement. Fiddly, but doable. If you have ASC+T the other filter is located under the car below the rad. Also doable at home. This one is stainless steel and spendy but can be cleaned and reused.

Seb,
It would also be prudent to check the condition of the pas drivebelt and tensioner. The belts can harden with age and slip at lower temperatures such as we are experiencing in the UK at the moment and the tensioners can lose their tensioning ability.
Visually check the ribbed side of the drivebelt for cracks or hardening, (will feel like plastic rather than rubber) and manually check that the tensioner is not
a, seized
b, leaking or
c, at the end of its adjustment. My guess is it needs a new belt that has been missed during routine service.

Thanks, I'll get those checked out too.

I'll chime in on the side of the belt check.
The tensioners on mine were at least a half inch shorter than the new ones and both idler wheel bearings were going as well. Spun really nicely but you could hear them is you spun them.
The only clue with mine was a shrill chirp when shifting from first to second. Sounded like the transmission was going

Guys as mine moans from time to time ( the steering) and I have cleaned my filter and changed the pentosin. The question is how do able is changing the belt and tensioner?
