I noticed on the Wuffer.net website that some of the guys have a metal mesh grille fitted into the lower front intake of the CSi (M-Tech) Front Bumper - in front of the auxiliary fan. They directed me to a U.S.A. website reselling MK Motorsport products. http://www.mk-bmwe31.com/servlet/StoreFront However there are no contact details in order to get carriage costs for the UK. I have been on the German website of MK Motorsport but they appear not to have this product.
Does anyone know where I can get this in the UK? I am fed up of pulling leaves and stuff out of the auxiliary fan!

This guy whos website this is writes on bimmerforums: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=55
Try asking there as he may be able to ship to the UK. -
This Mesh should be available at any Tuner Shop in standart dimensions or even in normal "do it your self" shop's
Try either Stainless Steel or Aluminium, the next challange will then be, how to fit it, good luck -
that mesh is without doubt just a homemade grill using some chicken wire (losely sold as an automotive application on ebay etc).
If it were me doing it, I'd try to hide the fixing points to make it less obvious, but that's easier said than done on a white car I guess

Tony, I'm not so sure about that you know. I think that the MK site is run by Lazslo (at least that's definitely his 8 on the MK web page)- he's a regular on Roadfly and posts a lot on the 8 forum there. Koizumo - who you know from the georgeous black 8 with the pictures (8 in the hot sun) bought one of the grilles and seemed well chuffed. Why not post on Roadfly or search there? I'm pretty sure there was a thread about the grilles there recently.
Cheers,

On a side note I quite like the infill piece

But where to put the number plate -
Here is Koizumo's installation

Jason, I only says it as I sees it
5 highly visible fixing points, and no border around the edges as would be found on a 'made for the car' part. Nothing wrong with a bit of mesh I guess if done OEM style... which IMO to qualify would need to be a seamless fit, preferably flush and using a much thicker gauge of coated mesh, either plastic or anodized... This is just my opinion though (and not to be trusted of course!).
I'm not diss'ing anyone's car I promise, I'm just pointing out that mesh can go horribly wrong if not done properly.... see bottom pic
-
Fully agree with you Tony - for me to want to fit that grille it would need to have a proper border and be made of sterner stuff than chicken mesh. BTW, that car on the bottom is chavtastic!
What a POS! -
That escort won Shed of the Week a few months back on BarryBoys. I was spoilt for choice when looking for a decent example of what I was trying to say earlier, but this one ticks all the right boxes !
The MK one is not in the same league as that effort of course, but could do with a bit more refinement IMO. Everything else on the MK site looks great, inc the CSi repro spoiler and inserts, and it does seem like a decent shop all in all. I just think that the mesh product could do with being redesigned a little to make it more appealing. I would have something similar, if I could find a way of doing it without visible brackets and it having a border.
That said I do quite like the Manta Ray-esque (gaping mouth) of my spoiler, despite it's tendency to suck small animals and children into it.....
-
I'm very pleased with my mesh grill. Now I don't have to pull out leaves and plastic grocery bags anymore! I'm pretty sure Lazslo will ship across the pond.
If you have a CSi nose, you should seriously consider covering up the big intake.
Cheers

I have to side with the nay-sayers on this one Koiz. As attentive as I know you are to the aethetics of your car (and it shows!) I'm surprised those exposed tabs don't just bother the hell out of you. I've decided to get the Zeemax front air dam (without the splitters) and will be needing mesh in three places across it. Tall Tony's shot of the refined Jag grille is the look I want.

I saw a Bentley GT this morning (they're all about like sh1t in a field here in Zürich). They have a very good grille set-up with a proper frame, look very good. It should be too hard to fabricate something like that.....another little project

ever the optimist eh Jason

You didn't spot the deliberate mistake in my post? it "shouldn't" was what I meant to say. Where did you find the Chaved up version of the GT?
This is more what I was referring to: -
I did spot it, I'm just wearing my pedant badge today I know you (at least) don't get offended by my occasional sarcasm on here !
Saw that 'wallet-Barry' GT a while back but thought it might raise a smile or two if I posted it - since it is (tenuously) linked to this thread
-
No worries Tony. Back on topic, what about having a go at producing a framed grille? any ideas? Black or Chrome?
-
definitely black for your car, so it would match the kidney grille and intake vents. I have absolutely no idea how you would fabricate one though. If anyone comes up with a plan, they are sure to create a demand. I'd be interested at least
-
I'm on the case Tony, searching now for suitable mesh that isn't crap, there's plenty of that around. The thing is, do we want classic style or something more modernish in terms of grille mesh style? Need to find a method of framing but that should be too hard either. Next step, measuring and designing. I'll let you know if this develops into a project or stays as a "good idea" that didn't go anywhere
BTW, since this is turning into a thread hijack, I'll take it off-line and talk to you via PM on this topic. If anyone else is interested and wants to contribute ideas fell free to PM me.
Cheers
