Bloody hell yeah it's worth it, all in all total comes to £450, so a real bargain.
I have only done about 50 miles in it so I've not given it a good run (yet), but I am going down to North Devon on Friday so I will be enjoying the A361 link road (very hilly)
Tony I have switched it to S and it is amazing, I have not switched the ASC off so I will give that a bash later, I have not used the manual side of the box, that's for tonightCheers guys for all your help.
Wayne.

The Racing Dynamics website is showing as a new offering, what they call AI-LSD. Not mechanical fixed percentage but from 10% -90% locking as is needed. States that it is not Torsen / Quaife but better.
Two variations available: as standalone to be inserted in your diff or (the one I am interested in) a complete diff, housing and all.
Potential challenge, website states that it is for the 280 rear axle class (E39 M5). I do not know if that will work.
Does anyone have experience with this one?
Cheers,
Michael B.

I was doing some shopping and saw the Link below, Maybe someone can pursuae him to sale the Diff only?

Well guys I decided to join the LSD club.
So just to recap I need to take off the output and input shafts and the rear mount or back plate? Do these just unbolt? Is it straight forward? What oil do you recommend and should the unit be serviced first?
Sorry for all the questions I have read most of the 8 pages and the above is mainly confirmed on these pages, but as mine is 850 just thought I would check.
New bolts all round? If so OEM or other?
-
congrats Lloyd
I assume you have read this ? If not, then it should help....
http://www.e31faq.com/Default.aspx?catId=90
click on Rear Axle, and then on the bottom thread. (cant link direct to actual page it would seem)

Cheers TT I will have a proper read later although looking at what I have read he did not change any shafts only the rear casing??
-
IIRC the mechanic which fitted mine changed the output & input shafts, don't think he needed to do anything for the back plate or mount.
As for oil, I went to BMW and told them which diff it was and they gave me the relevant oil (take your own empty containers) and I didn't bother getting it serviced before.

Lloyd,
Are those pics of the diff inside the boot of your 8 ?
Any probs with the weight on the boot floor ?
(just asking coz will be picking one up soon and was wondering if it would fit in the boot) -
Martin they are pic of the diff in the 8 it weights 30kg so no probs, however it was only in there for about 10 mins.

LSD Update : Well I fitted it on friday and it took approx 4 hours (including picking up a burger for lunch)
I did not remove the exhaust or any part of it (It may have made it a little easier if I had )
I did not change any of the output or input flanges. Instead I just bought 12 M10 x 1 x 50mm bolts 12 off from the stealers and they only cost £1 ish each!! So it seemed stupid to change the output flan s to save £12 plus new bolts always fit much better
I did change the back plate
Well as for the driving experience I have not really pushed it in anyway except once on the way home from Bimmerfest and its a little scary on a narrow road In a good way of course
So thank for the advise guys with a special mention to Alex (Schnitz850)

LLoyd
Did you add new back plate gasket, or use some kind of Hylomar sealant ? If sealant, which type ?
Asking, as appears gasket is no longer available ? -
Martin I used a sealant with a gasket (High temperature Dow Cowling I think but I can check tomorrow its like Hermitite spelling )
-
Llloyd
So that was a new gasket ? or the old one ?
If new gasket, where from ? -
Old gasket but it was it pretty good shape.
