Two Tone Interior

  • There appears to be two sorts of two tone interior.
One with the whole of the seat face in the same colour and one with split colours like on some Csi's.
Mine has the Csi type (or so I've been told).
Pictures to check what is what are in my Gallery or there are more on my website (http://www.ukzero.co.uk).
    Hope this helps.

  • Ah ha, yep that's the picture I was sure I'd seen before - the one with the sub speaker mesh. Your leather between the rear seats is the second colour. Well actually the main colour since only the seat centres are the lighter shade...

The reason for this is that I'm having my seats 'done' professionally later this week and, as an afterthought, I asked the guy whether he could do the dual colour combination whilst he was at it. Turns out he can, and has done similar before. He also does the local BMW $tealers' cars so I can only assume that the job will be good quality. His website certainly looks very impressive. http://www.leatherclever.co.uk/gallery.php

As I have the light silver/grey interior with dark grey piping, I was just going to do the Front and Rear seat sides, and front Headrest sides, in a dark grey (same as door/dash mouldings) and leave the armrest in the back. But as is always the case the idea is growing and I'm thinking that maybe I should replicate the CSi seats for authenticity ( what is happening to me... )

That said I do like the idea of extra contrast in the rear seats......

It's typical, I start off just wanting the front seats refurbished.....

  • Tony,

If your foam is sagging, you can replace the cushions under the leather. They are available through dealers and don't cost much (about £40). The leather panels are also available at about £800 per front seat.

The csi came in two versions of split colours:

1.) Seat centre panels in a light colour with seat edge bolsters on black
2.) All of the seat in a lighter colour.

Usually the rear centre arm-rest was in black in both cases.

The door centre-panels, lower dash trim and carpets matched the lighter seat colour.

  • Hi Arnie,

fortunately I don't need new panels for mine as there are no rips or tears. I'm having the surface of the leather restored as shown in the Gallery of the link I posted earlier on. My seats resemble the Jag XK8 ones. Not terrible, but still in need of a refurb.

Since I'm not trying to pretend I've got a CSi (just wanted something a little different) I might simply do the seat sides and Headrest sides in the same colour as the dark grey door/dash mouldings, leaving the lighter grey colour for the seat centres and door leathers. If it doesnt look right then I'll get the armrest done at a later date, but I reckon the contrast will look good. The choice of colour doesnt effect the price of the job, so I figured I may as well as it surely cant do any harm !

Ukzero's interior is identical to mine except for the dual seat colours, only I have the lighter grey all over.

Naturally I post the results when finished.

  • Now that our attention is being drawn to the trim detailing........

One thing I hadn't really noticed before, but I think my side panels may also be more "two tone" than normal, with only the padded bit in the middle being "silver"?
Also - the side panels have vertical stitching to break them into even smaller sections - some cars appear to have a single padded piece....how normal is this?

    Pics also in my gallery.

Tony - what have you started?

  • I was never that good at 'spot the difference' puzzle books as a kid :?

So, UKzero, two tone aside, my interior is not identical to yours at all. Similar, but not identical. See picture.

Your dash/door mouldings are the same, but the leather inserts are different, and have the extra stitching, and extra colour......

My two tone will be of the same colour as yours when finished, but will only apply to the seats.

It would appear that the original purchaser of your car was handed the 'Extras' sheet in the showroom, and said "Yes". The salesman then said, "I'm sorry sir, 'yes' to what exactly?", to which the buyer replied "all of it thanks".

  • £400 is a bargain, I am having a few issues with my seats again, the car is going back to the guy who did the work shortly for a second attempt, if he cannot make a good job this time he has agreed to give me a full refund :D
I have been in touch with b-trim and they have given me a very good price, but this time to replace all the leather in the front seats.

    My seat saga continues.....

    Wayne.

On my 3rd 8 but my first V12

  • Wow - could have fooled me about your sleuthing skills Tony - eagle eyes would come a poor second to your instant observation prowess!

I am told the owner spent £68,500 in total at the point of sale - which I am also told, included paying extra to have the light grey headliner put in rather than the specified charcoal one because he thought it would be too claustrophobic. Now there's someone with money to burn!

I think a two tone Tony interior would be very smart - look forward to seeing the results. :D

Well when I first took the car to him some of the side panels were cracking (see gallery pics) well now the cracks have started to appear again

Just like relationship counselling I can imagine

Well, my rear seats have been taken away for treatment, leaving me with unenviable task of removing the two front seats by Monday morning, when the guy is due to pick them up.

After reading previous threads, and looking in clube31.com Maintenance Section, I now know how to remove them, and that I'll need to get the AirBag light reset once they are put back in.

Bought the correct Torx set, with thin shank to get into hole of the seat rails, form http://www.deltec.net. Size : CR-V T50

As my company is also a supplier of theirs I am eligible for 50% off the catalogue price. Bear that in mind if you see anything on that site you need or want :D

Check out the http://www.leatherclever.co.uk/gallery.php. and then look at my driver's seat (passenger nowhere near as bad). Wayne, you should contact this guy for advice/ammunition on the 'cracks' as I mentioned it earlier today whilst he was here and he did have a whole host of technical reasons why you are seeing these cracks reappear (he assures me that his work will not go this way).

I am seriously looking forward to the end result.

  • Zitat von wayneblackwell1000

I spoke to b-trim about these cracks, but I have to give the guy who did them a second chance and then if the cracks start to apear again then I will go to b-trim for a total re-trim.

    Thanks.

How are B-Trim? A colleague at work only today recommended me to them...their website isn't all that?!

Wayne...were you by chance on the A406 going towards Edmonton on Monday? I think i might have spotted that car...really deep blue colour...stood out a lot!! 8)

  • Zitat von wayneblackwell1000

I have heard a lot of good things about B-Trim from another BMW forum so I am only going on recommendations.

No it wasn't me on A406 sorry, but yes it does stand out from the crowd :lol:8)

Their website says they specialise in BMW audi and i know from a colleague they have been around for many years.

Not too sure about the interior on their "classic bmw" showcase...looks a little too pimp my ride for me. The ferrari was gorgeous though.

If you do take your 8 there, let us know how you get on :D
