I have come across a guy who has a few brand new, in the box Rondell D58
8,5x18 ET13 and 10x18 ET19.
The price is good, and they are from the same era as the 850, and I think they might look pretty good on my car as a secondary set.
The front would probably need a 5-10mm spacer, but all in all I think it may come out pretty good.
What is the quality of these?
I know Rondell supplied BMW with OEM wheel, i.e the M-contour wheels for the e36 M3.
Rondell D58, good wheels?

That's me!
So, yes, highly recommended and absolutely loads of us have them in the UK, at the last Duxford meeting around 50% of the E31's had Rondell's fitted.
I used a 10mm hub-centric spacer on the front and metal hub-centric rings on the rear and it looks just fine:
-
When I got mine as a second set, the PO said that they were 'extremely rare'
And then I get to the Duxford show -
I guess they are extremely rare in the fact that they are no longer sold new.
But my be quite common on cars from that era.
Thought I'd get a 18" set as a backup to my current 19" set, they are due for a rebuild and I only have one set for the 850.

Projex still sells them in the UK - I bought mine last year

A few questions
When you guys buy different wheels how important is it to get 5?
If you do get 5 and your rears are wider than the fronts what size 5th wheel do you get?
Is it easier to sell a set of 4 or 5?
-
As one sits in the trunk out of sight, I only get 4. If you do get 5 then you need to get a third front one because if you get a rear as a spare you cannot fit it on the front as its too wide if you get a puncture. A front will fit anywhere.
Trick question?

I bet most of us with Rondells have the original front throwing star in the boot - I do!

I always liked the Rondell 58 from the first time I saw them and yes Projex are still selling them although the 17" is no longer available. They have just quoted me for 4 x 18" fitted with Falken 452 tyres at a price I thought was very good but shan't say until I get the written quote.
Only thing to worry about now is whether they are different enough to all the rest. I have been considering the 17" Alpinas on ebay but they are not as well priced and look like a helluva lot of cleaning.
Too many decisions, will probably end up with nothing
Cheers

Graham I have Alpina's 18" and they are a daily clean and real PITA. But look great when clean

The Alpinas take no time at all to clean Graham.Big sponge!

I think I trust your judgement more than Steve's He will say anything to rid me of my beloved 16" wheels!
Have been quoted £815 inc Vat for 2x8.5x18 and 2x10x18 Rondell 58's from Projex. Same quote fitted with 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 Falken FK452 tyres at £1,433.48.
Seems very competitive to me.
Can someone please explain why there are mentions of spacers in this thread? The chap at Projex said they will bolt straight on as a replacement
Thanks

They have a 74.1mm bore - so you need hub-centric rings at the very least. Projex fitted some ghastly plastic ones so I replaced them using exactly the same method as when I fitted fake M-Pars as detailed here:
-
Seems pricey to me when you could have the M parell knock off's for £500.

Just my 2p's worth.

Fake 18" M-Pars are just so E38! Now 19" M-Pars with that deep rear dish are nice, but very difficult to find. However, the Rondell alloys are extremely tough whereas the fake M-Pars are a bit soft.

Out of stock if you read the page with no lead time so dont get your hopes up.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a set, he actually gave me a €130 discount just because he loved the e31
Including shipping (€81) I got these for €1085, not bad for Norway, now I'll have to find some cheap rubber, these will not be my primary set, so I won't use them much.
They might end up sitting in their boxes for a while, but at least I have a second set of wheels for my 8
