Finally got one!

  • After being a member for a while, I've finally got myself and 8 Series and here she is 8) It's a '97 P reg 840Ci, and I love it! Absolutely in love with it, just can't quite believe it's my car, can't believe I own it! Last time I felt like this was when I had my Toyota Supra. It just looks fantastic, is so nice to drive, so relaxing and it feels special and makes you feel special. Absolutely over the moon! :D:D

congratulations on your purchase matey. I know exactly how you feel, I'm still buzzing :)

Im on my 2nd in as many months  I happy i got one that works... :D

Having said that mr. white van man decided he had to park right in front of me today in a space big enought for a bike. Left me with a hairline crack on the bumper  nothing i can do...cant prove it and no marks on his. Only visible when you get up close mind...

  • Thanks for all the comments guys!
I think that for 10 years and 127k miles it's in good condition, especially the interior. There are a few mechanical issues that need resolving, but I bought it fully aware of this and prepared to spend the money to fix it. I picked the car up this morning from Norwich, drove it back to London and literally straight to a BMW specialist along with a box of parts and a list of things to fix. I'm pining for it already but when I get it back next week it'll (hopefully) be repaired and it's getting an Inspection I as well so it hopefully won't be needing any attention for a while.

  • I took it to Highams Park just off the North Circular. The guys know BMWs inside out, back to front and upside down. The two main guys who run it worked as BMW technicians for around 14 years but got fed up of main dealer work ethics so set up shop on their own. If that's not enough, the other week Which? magazine took a car, gave it four faults and topped up the washer fluid before taking it to 50 garages around the country. Only Highams Park and one other garage were awarded full marks for overall quality of the work carried out and the service they provided. I was chatting to Clive, one of the two guys who runs the place, and he said that when a car comes in for a service, no matter how basic and how little is required, as well as doing the oil and filter, they check all the fluid levels, lights and change the pollen filter too. It's little things like that that make the difference.
As for me, I live not far from Oxford Street.
