Nick,
They are still available from BMW, but I appreciate you may want to keep costs to a minimum. I think they are around £100.
Almost made me cry

Never seen that much rust on a eight before. Any idea why it developed.
Is the key to avoid rust my extreme cleaning.
My G*d...I think you were a brain surgeon in a former life. That is fabulous! -
Quick update. Been busy this weekend. Picked up the new bonnet, wings, nose and lots of the plastic ducting a the like. It's all in great condition except the wings that are a little bit rusty so I'll get that sorted before putting them on. There is definitely no damage beyond plastic, metal work and radiators so that's good news. There's still a lot of work to do but I'm making progress.
Things I'm looking out for are the a/c rad and the pas cooler in front of it, and the dreaded indicator which is crazy expensive. I need lots of bits and bobs but hopefully nothing too pricey.
I think I'm going to have to get a MIG or TIG welder as part 2 below needs replacing and it looks like it's spot welded on, that should be fun
-
You can buy something like this or just make one from a standard bit by resharpening it almost flat. That makes taking the spot welds out easier.

or maybe keeping it in a temperature and moisture controlled storage unit and not driving it ???
Good luck with the repairs man. Wouldn't wish your task on my worst enemies.

On the rust, I think it was partly due to broken inner wing liners (the large plastic pieces in the wheel wells). As you can see where water has been getting through and hitting the inside of the wing. These parts are strangely cheap from BMW so make sure you've got good ones.

Managed to buy a used indicator from ebay today. £100....for a 20 year old bit of plastic, what a terrible rip off but I didn't have a lot of choice.

OUCH!
Thats bloody expensive Nick. Did you need a headlight as well?
There is a pair on ebay at the mo. -
I've already bought the headlight I need, but thanks for the tip.
I really need an a/c radiator/condensor and ideally an engine oil cooler, anyone know where to get these?
-
Hi, here are a few pics of what the car looks like now. It doesn't look too clever but almost all of the damaged parts are off the car. The only remaining damage is the cross member and inner wing that you can see in the photos, I'm really hoping I can bend this back into shape as otherwise I need to get myself a welder. Then "all" I need to do now is find a few of the remaining parts I need then put it all together!
I've decided to leave the dead AC system until next year to keep the costs down and the oil cooler doesn't look too good, but it's not broken so it can stay until I see one cheap on eBay.
I've got almost all of the parts I need (this place is great http://www.bmminiparts.com, if they don't have the part they can source it and it's between 15 and 20% cheaper than BMW - no affiliation blah blah but I may invest...!) What I really need is the air collector from the drivers side nose, they are over £200 OEM so if anyone knows of a breaker that has one please let me know. It's part #2 below.

Alex in Gross-Gerau and his brother Andi are probably the guys with the most extensive collection of 8er spares, having salvaged in excess of 10 LHD and RHD cars!
Try to contact Alex using PM, "vanillo4444@yahoo.de" or mobile phone +49 178 7053 312. In case you run into language troubles (I am pretty certain they speak English well enough) try to relay your request through me or Warrior/Oliver
They will have any and all parts to get you going again and shipping to the UK should not cost more than an arm and half a leg.
Definitely worth a try - have been frequent user of their services, always satisfied!Cheers & heads up

Hi Nick.
Have you seen this on ebay?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayI…&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
He's also got a rad pack with fans and a complete front bumper assembly with grills and other plastics still on it.
Might be of some use mate.

Thanks Daz. Lloyd pointed this out too, I appreciate you all looking out for me! I don't need any of these bits anymore thankfully. In fact my search is almost complete, just a couple of cheap bits and bobs that I can get from BMW.
My major sticking point is the bent cross member that I posted a few days ago. I know that it's on the ebay part on the link (with the square and triangular holes) but it's spot welded to the chassis legs and I'm pretty sure it's easier to bend back into place than to replace the part. The problem is that I have nothing to lever it back on, so I've resorted to trying to bend it with pliers or hitting it with a hammer (), both approaches result in badooooiiiiiing kind of noises and not much improvement! I have bought a blow torch but I think I need to use this in conjunction with some giant pliers that I can pull the metal back with. My search for giant pliers (or anything similar) has been fruitless. Anyone have any ideas?
-
Nick can you get a rachet strap around or it may have a hook end and the other end attached to something strong and hey presto tighten the scrap to pull out???
I do have a 240v portable spot welder you can borrow if it comes to it -
Lloyd, i'm liking your plan.... I'll try it out and thanks for the offer of the spot welder, that may be the way forward. Cheers mate.
