I know there have been several threads re Rust on our steeds.
As a summary, how about everyone submitting a list of all known rust areas in their experiences.
A compilation/summary like this will I am sure be great education for all of us owners.
Cheers.

Around the windshield is a known place

Rust
Non a spot on mine. But i have seen pictures of rust in front of the hood. I think its because water remains between the rubber gasket and the hood.
It's just one way to avoid rust. Use the car at sumertime in good weather, and never leave it wet in the garage. -
sunroof panels are another known area with problems.
-
Around the drain holes on the doors.
-
At the bottom of the inside of the doors, in and around the boot - remove rubbers to check. As Gerry showed us a few days ago in around the jacking points.

What if the garage is heated? -
- Sills, especialy around the jacking holes.
- Rear wheel arch corner in front of the rear wheel, directly above the sill cover.
- In the engine bay underneath the airfilter (M60/62 but probably also V12) also on the other side around the ABS Block

Underfloor fuel pipes and brake lines.
Rear coil springs.
front panel directly below the radiator.
damper retaining collars on front struts.
battery trays.
Spare wheel well, especially with headlamp washers fitted. -
There is a spot behind the inner arch splash panel, on the bulkhead where the wiring goes through to the distribution hub!! (Passenger side UK)
This was the only spot that had corroded bad enough for me to cut out and replace...
Take the splash guards off and check....

Front wings, directly above the wheel arch. Definitely worth cleaning out the handy water and dirt collecting ledge just on the inside of the arch.
I also have some rather strange rust spots on the lower lip of my boot lid, just below the BMW badge.
The A/C dryer just in front of the driver side front wheel rusts like a b'stod. If left it will rust through and you'll loose all your lovely refrigerant.

learned something new then as i believed all had the tank in the trunk. -
Where the screw for securing the front wheel arch plastic liner goes into the body, both sides. There is a plastic "nut" in the metal of the inner wing into which the securing screw fits. The screw rusts and this is "transmitted" to the inner wing. Easy to see on the Left Side but it is under the air filter box on the right side. See picture of rust on the inner wing left side. I've now treated this but have the right side to do.
I also agree the the aircon dryer, behind the front of the right side under wing plastic liner, is very vulnerable.

I had occasion to refurb my headlights (replacing the brittle/broken OEM adjusters with superb modified replacements supplied by Reinhard). Under the air filter box there is a plastic screw receptor, pushed into the inner wing from the underside. There was quite a bit of rust around this. I have done the one on the Left side previously but this one is hidden unless the filter box is removed.

Is it possible to check the rust under the front and rear windshield without taking out the windows?
-
Yes, just peel away the rubber trim surround.
-
There is a body shell for sale on ebay at the moment and it clearly shows the impact of NOT dealing with the rust around the securing screw for the plastic wheel arch protectors. See picture highlighted in red. This is a typical and hidden problem that if left unresolved will cause damage that is difficult to repair.

Habe mir was Neues ausgedacht:
Da der Innenkotflügel einiges an Euro verschluckt und 2/3 davon benötigt man gar nicht, habe ich mir gedacht, mach mal Radlaufeinschweißbleche.
Auf den Bildern ist ja zu erkennen, dass bei manchen der Zahn der Zeit sich regt, das heißt: Rost! Mit uns nicht!
Falls Bedarf vorhanden, dann könnt ihr ja unter meiner Webseite www.engl-production.de nachschauen.
