Sorry to hear about your troubles Noggie but I'm sure you'll get it sorted eventually.
The systems you describe sound to me as though the fuelling is all over the place - you mention it's running very rich but then describe symptoms that sound a little like starvation.

I think the symptoms are "drowning".... it gets so much fuel it cant burn all of it. there is thick black smoke comming out of the tailpipes everytime I floor it.
But just to let you guys know, It will be quiet for a week or so now.
I expect the first batch of parts mid-week, and the rest hopefully on Friday.
I'm getting a new EML chip from John on Friday, and I hope I can get the water hose on Friday too, if not it will be after the weekend.
Edit: I just checked the car, and it was the A/C comnpressor pully, NOT the SC pully that was touching the water hose. -
Keep going Noggie we are all behind you - keep posting
-
I will keep going, just a minor speed bump these things.
With luck, and the blessing of the postal system I'll have another go on friday evening.
I can't wait for this to be completed.
really looking forward to driving her. -
And Egil, does it run???
-
No, still waiting for a water hose and the new EML chip.
EML chip shouldbe here on Friday, I have no idea when the Hose will be here, it was not in stock so had to be ordered from the main storage in Sweden.
may not be here until next week. -
Very sad, but we hope that it will run when you have the parts as you like it...
-
I hope so too.
-the hose will fix the leak.
-fan clutch should provide proper cooling.
-intake and water temp sensors along with vacuum hoses should provide better fuel mix readings for the engine management system.
-EML chip should clear the fule mix issue.
So lets just hope John has got his calculations right..... or we will have to try something else. -
Keep us posted!
-
Today I got the parts needed.
-intake air sensors.
-water temp sensor
-fan clutch
-water hose
-vacuum lines
Sadly the EML chip did not arrive today.
I plan to have everything done today, or tomorrow.
The chip should be here Monday so mid-day Monday I should be ready for another test drive. -
We all watch and wait well done mate I look forward to the finished article!
-
well, a small update.
all parts but one vacuum hose is installed.
had to remove the left dk-motor (throttlebody) to get the vacuum line on, and the seal broke, so I need to get a new seal on monday.
hopefully the chip will also arrive then.
will prepare the EML controller so the new chip is ready to go in when it arrives.
So Monday I have to install the chip, a throttlebody, and fill up the coolant system.
Should be test driving on Monday afternoon.
On a side note I can mention that the new water hose was sightly different from the one I had on my car, the diameter was a little smaller, and the bends was also a little different.
so this one clears the pully with about 1-1,5cm.
If the design has changed, or mine has just changed with the years I don't know. -
me 2
Would be interested in seeing something for the 840Ci.

AFAIK: the 8cyl M60 & M62 engines have a ton of aftermarket tuning options. Many companies offer compressors for it. I think that a simple google search will get you very far - those were VERY popular engines so that you should find tons of info on getting an insane amount of power from it.

Looking forward to seeing Noggie's install on completion.

A HUGE dissapointment today when my mailbox only contained adverts... no EML chip
But I have put coolant on the car and put the throttlebody back on.
also got the USB cable for my Ipod pulled to the center console and
installed Gerrys billet oil cap, which looks great by the way.
So lets hope the mailman comes through tomorrow.
my EML is dissasembled and waiting at the moment, so it should take me 5 minutes to get the new chip fitted.
then go to the garage, put the EML in place, start up the car, bleed the cooling system an away we go...... I hope.
As for the 840, I know ESS has a kit for the 540i, might fit. -
Postman Pat and his black and white cat came through today.
EML chip is installed and the EML is reassembled ready to be fittted to the car.
Now all I have to do is wait for the guy who is installing a new security system in my house to finish and it straight out in the garage to fire up the 850.
wish me luck.
Edit: No change, car still runs rich, no more investigations are needed.
Might take a while before this issue is resolved. -
I'm confused...... was this an ongoing issue with John, and Marco's car? Was this not handled in R&D? I'm watching this with great interest Noggie as I've just purchased an 850, and appreciate your detailed updates. Good luck!
