I have to agree. Even for simple items like the rear shock tower enforcement plates we can always rely on you, Gerry!

Hallo Gerry!
I see your Freds always very interested. They are really professional and perfect.
Also the lightweight screws you used - its a mass item in factory roll out cars - so the calculators buy the cheapest - not the beautiestBut one question I have:
Why did you use coloured screws?
Are these the British colours ?
Or are they selected for strength?
Or is it your special design?Questions but questions...
Best Greetings from the northern Bavaria
and the very best wishes for the lucky New YearMax

I would like to add my thanks also - advice, topics covered and how they are presented are second to none. Excellent work 8tech, excellent.

Without this man's dedication and his willness to share his mine of knowledge, many 8's would have otherwise faced the crusher. Thanks where thanks is due Gerry

The coloured screws are all high tensile aluminium in non-stressed areas and anodised Titanium in stressed applications. Both are highly corrosion resistant and will not corrode either along the thread or anywhere the thread protrudes through the other end of the fastening which on a steel bolt can severely damage the thread when undoing the fastener.
Where extreme strength is required, I use grade 12.9 super-high tensile fasteners (such as where installing the bump-steer plates I make or mounting brake caliper brackets) and these are then wirelock drilled where required, plated for corrosion resistance and then Hydrogen Passivated to heat treat them and counter any embrittlement caused during the plating process.
Regards, 8Tech.

I know the problems with corroded screws...
