New BMW Website

  • Checked out the site.

Personally, I prefer to look at 8tech's 'soft porn' photos and listen / watch Faisal's 6.0L 'hard porn' videos and then whilst in a aroused state, post to the 'club'.

Not sure if youve heard but BMW have introduced a new site...Worth looking at if youre having trouble sleeping but once again seems as though the E31 didnt exist!

    http://www.bmw-web.tv

Reminds me of the copy of "BMWCAR" "the ultimate BMW magazine" that I picked up a couple of weeks back.
In the car data lists in the back there's no mention that the E31 ever existed, they even included the M1 but no 8 series cars at all :?
Not impressed, safe to say there's one reader here that'll not be buying that magazine again, any recomendations on a half decent BMW mag' most welcome?

  • isn't part of the appeal of the e31 that it is a novelty? With only 3000 examples ever sold in UK ? Probably only 3/4 of those or fewer left on the roads today.... I enjoy the exclusivity of it. I see half a dozen Ferraris, countless Porsches, and plenty of Astons every week on my travels, whereas I'll glimpse an 8 every other week if I'm lucky.

You will never find a magazine that features the e31 on a regular basis, but hey, you still have clube31 to look at when the mood takes you.

  • Stuart8er faired better than I did. I actually bought the magazine because I did not have time to peruse it properly first. It got worse, inside there was actually a 316i hatch with an S70 V12 conversion. Why? Alright, which one of you dropped a 1.6L motor into an 8 series which caused this?

Even more distressing is that more and more are turning up on used car lots. I always cringe when I see a lost or runaway 8 series at 'Floyds World of Cars - Pay where you buy' next to a jacked up red repaint 1978 305 Camaro. I want to rescue it and bring it home. My wife always says no. If each of us could take in just 5 or 6, we could solve this horrible waste.

If 8er's were super popular and held their value many of us would not have one or more now. I considered a number of different cars but knew I wanted a medium size (not small like the Z4) 2 door with classic styling
of quality materials and with panache. For me, a V12 motorcar with reasonable parts and spares and performance bits available that we can really enjoy.

The 850 is a very special, lifetime commitment sort of vehicle (you take the good with the bad). TallTony said it well in his post above.
I feel the 8 series is an acquired taste for the sophisticated palette. The 80/20 rule (or is it the 90/10 rule) that the 80 percent just don't get it. Why think for yourself when you can be a sheep and let BMW world and BMW CAR magazine think for you?

  • We are special...

I've just picked up this thread. I've owned my 840Ci sport for the grand total of 5 months, having realised that I secretly covetted one for 12 years. After it was mine, naturally I wanted to make it perfect again, and although all my friends thought it was special at first they couldn't understand the love I felt. After I'd spent 2K putting some things right I realised that I was on a journey of my own, because no-one else would ever see the minute details that I was obsessing about. My wife is very supportive but I have realised that the rest of my world - take that as the rest of THE world - couldn't give a damn about CC66548 built in May 1997. Or indeed, any E31, for that matter. So what? I have found this community and I know that my car IS special, because it is one of a very, very small production run that cost BMW, arguably the best automobile engineering company of the late 20th century, the best part of $2 billion to produce. I am SO proud to own one of the 30,000 units that were created. At the week-end, I met some great people who share my beliefs. If it never features again in the popular car mags, never again makes an appearance on Top Gear, I don't really care. All I need to sustain me is the certain knowledge that it will become a renaissance car, all we have to do is wait, and this dream will remain alive because of people like us. Who can honestly say that those photos by Tony in the Lake District don't tug a nerve? So there's only a few of us looking at the photos today - it makes not a jot of difference to the quality of the product we all share enjoyment in. Just sharing my private thoughts with you all.

  • Picking up on SG thought, some of you may already know ( I spoke about this on Sunday) that I was a member of TSSC the triumph sports six club for some 15 years during which i fully restored a triumph herald convertable. I then planned and attended many events and meetings up and down the country. However like most clubs it has thousands of members with varying degrees of knowledge and experience. During these many years I rarely encountered any interesting and more importantly helpful people. In fact many a time I felt like an outsider almost. Whilst I loved the auto jumble side of it the rest was pretty poor. Which is why in complete contrast we speak about last sunday. It was a real pleasure to mix with like minded lovers of all things 8. To here stories and tales of the 8 etc. In addition to this people all to willing to grab a spanner (or lap top SG) and sort out a problem. Alex (thanks again) was all to happy to firstly suggest an improvement to my wipe set up. Then suggest the grabbing of spanners and the fixing of problems which was done.Like SG this is written with a big smile and the warmth of firstly owning an 8 and secondly being part of a select owners club.

    Thats my thoughts for now

:driving2:Its been a year since I sold her and I still miss her.......

Beautifully put SG. The car is a magnificent creation. The people who appreciate this have soul......man.

I agree with all the comments, the car has presence, there is no mistaking it for a Japoblob or Euroblob. I also think it is an automotive icon that will be more highly regarded in 20 years than now.
